Khumbu, Solukhumbu District, Nepal · Nepal
Follow the Sherpa trade route from Lukla to Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m — the world's most famous trek, passing through the Khumbu icefall below the summit of the world's highest mountain. The 12-14 day journey from Lukla ascends through pine and rhododendron forest, past Tengboche Monastery and its backdrop of Ama Dablam, through the Khumbu valley to the Base Camp moraines where expedition tents cluster in late April and May. Kala Patthar (5,545 m) provides the best viewpoint of Everest's summit pyramid. The teahouse infrastructure is excellent.
