Overview
Trek through Spiti Valley in the high trans-Himalayan desert of Himachal Pradesh — a Tibetan Buddhist region of whitewashed monasteries perched on crumbling mud cliffs above the turquoise Spiti River. The Pin Parvati Pass (5,319 m) connects Spiti with Kullu Valley across a glaciated watershed. The monasteries of Tabo, Key, and Dhankar are among the oldest continuously inhabited religious sites in Asia. Roads are open June-October; snow closes all routes in winter. Altitude acclimatisation in Kaza is essential before any high-pass crossings.
