Denali National Park, Alaska, USA · USA
Attempt the summit of Denali (6,190 m) — North America's highest peak — via the West Buttress Route from Base Camp at Kahiltna Glacier (2,200 m), a 17-21 day expedition involving fixed camps at 3,350 m, 4,335 m, 5,240 m, and a summit day from High Camp at 5,240 m. The mountain is technically non-technical in good conditions but the cold is extraordinary: temperatures at High Camp can reach -40C with wind chill to -70C. Crevasse rescue, tent camping in extreme cold, and glacier travel skills are mandatory. About 50% of teams reach the summit.
