Cycle the Grossglockner High Alpine Road — the highest paved mountain road in Austria and one of Europe's most famous alpine drives — from Heiligenblut on the south side to Zell am See, climbing to the Edelweisserspitze viewpoint at 2,571 m with panoramic views of the Grossglockner (3,798 m), Austria's highest peak. The 48 km of climbing road is closed in winter but opens late May; cyclists must pay the road toll unless entering before 6am on non-peak days. The road surface is perfect; the gradient is consistent and demanding.
