Descend into the Colca Canyon — one of the world's deepest canyons at 3,400 m, twice the depth of the Grand Canyon — on a 3-day trek from Cabanaconde through indigenous villages of the Collagua and Cabana cultures, terracing the canyon walls since pre-Inca times. The Cruz del Condor viewpoint is the best accessible location in South America to observe Andean condors on thermals at close range; up to 20 birds can be seen simultaneously on clear mornings. The canyon floor hot springs at Sangalle provide a welcome soak at the turnaround point.
