Cycle Iceland's Ring Road (Route 1) under the midnight sun — a 1,332 km loop around the entire island that takes 10-14 days at a comfortable pace — passing glaciers, lava fields, waterfalls, fjords, and volcanic landscapes in perpetual daylight from June to early August. The east fjords section is the most dramatic cycling; the north is the most remote. Traffic on the Ring Road is predictable; the weather is not. The Highland roads (F roads) are impassable on most loaded touring bikes and require 4WD. A completing an Iceland Ring Road is a benchmark achievement in cycling.
