High Atlas, Marrakech-Safi, Morocco · Morocco
Climb Jebel Toubkal (4,167 m) — the highest peak in North Africa and the Atlas Mountains — in winter conditions with crampon and ice axe from the Refuge du Toubkal at 3,207 m. The 2-day ascent via the Ikhibi Sud route takes mountaineers from the souks and date palms of Marrakech to true alpine winter terrain within 3 hours by car. Winter snow transforms the normally straightforward summer route into a genuine mountaineering objective; the south couloir holds good ice conditions February-March. The view from the summit encompasses the High Atlas range and the Sahara horizon beyond.
