Overview

Trek the Sanetti Plateau and Harenna Forest of Bale Mountains National Park in search of the Ethiopian wolf — the world's rarest canid, with only 500 remaining, of which 250 live in the Bale Mountains. The plateau at 4,000 m is the wolf's primary habitat; morning walks along the moorland edge give the best sightings. The Harenna Forest below 3,500 m harbours Bale monkey, colobus, and the rare giant mole rat that the wolves specialise in hunting. The trek combines high-altitude grassland, forest, and cultural visits to Oromo villages.
