Manali to Leh, Himachal Pradesh / Ladakh, India · India
Cycle the Manali-Leh Highway through the Himalayas and into the high-altitude desert of Ladakh — a 490 km route crossing five passes above 4,500 m including Tanglang La (5,328 m), one of the highest motorable passes in the world. The road is open June to October; snow can close passes even in August. Support vehicle arrangements are common and sensible; self-supported cyclists carry their own food and camping gear for multi-day stretches between supply points. The Ladakhi landscape of mud-brick gompas perched on ridges above turquoise rivers is extraordinary.
