Walk the historic Chilkoot Trail — 53 km from Dyea, Alaska to Bennett, British Columbia — retracing the route of 100,000 stampeders who crossed the 1,067 m Chilkoot Pass in the winter of 1897-1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush. The trail is now a Parks Canada and US National Park Service jointly managed wilderness route; artefacts from the stampede era lie where they fell on the snow in 1898. The summit section involves a hands-and-feet scramble up 45-degree loose rock to the narrow pass. The White Pass railway returns hikers to Skagway.
