Namibia Damaraland Desert Walk

Overview

Walk through Damaraland — a vast territory of volcanic rock, ochre gravel plains, and ancient dry riverbeds in northwest Namibia — guided by Damara community guides tracking desert-adapted elephant, rhino, and lion on foot across country so empty that a day's walking can pass without a road, a fence, or another vehicle. The Brandberg massif, containing the famous White Lady rock painting, estimated at around 2,000 years old, rises 2,573 m from the surrounding plains. Community camps and lodges around Twyfelfontein and the Palmwag concession are the bases for the walking sections. Night skies here are among the darkest on the African continent.
