Trek the Balcony Walk around the Grand Canyon of Arabia — Wadi Ghul beneath Jebel Shams (2,980 m), Oman's highest peak — a narrow ledge path cut into the canyon wall above 1,000 m drops into the shadowed depths below. The canyon is 1,000 m deep and 10 km wide at its broadest; ancient terraced villages cling to the canyon rim. Jebel Shams is accessible year-round but the summit is cool even in summer; winter brings snow to the top. The walking is straightforward but exposure is significant.
