Overview
Trek through the Central Tien Shan Mountains of Kyrgyzstan — a wilderness of glacier-fed turquoise lakes, alpine meadows grazed by herds of yak and sheep, and jagged 5,000+ m summits that appear unexpectedly around valley bends. The Karakol region and Terskey Ala-Too range offer some of the finest trekking in Central Asia with minimal tourist infrastructure. Homestays in yurt camps provide food and accommodation; horses can be hired to carry gear. The region borders China's Xinjiang province at the Khan Tengri massif.
