Overview
Chacaltaya was once the world's highest ski resort at 5421m above La Paz, but its glacier has now almost entirely disappeared due to climate change. The existing ski on the remaining snow represents both a high-altitude extreme sport experience and a visceral lesson in the climate emergency. Combined with ski touring on the nearby Huayna Potosi glacier at 6088m, this delivers the most extreme altitude skiing accessible to acclimatized mountaineers.
