Overview

Portillo is a single canary-yellow hotel at 2,880m beside the ink-blue Laguna del Inca, with no village, no queues and a hard cap of around 450 guests. The Saturday-to-Saturday week is the whole product: you ski the same lifts as the US and Austrian national teams in training, eat four-course dinners in a dining room unchanged since the 1960s, and are back on the slingshot lifts before the corduroy softens. Those lifts are the signature — the va-et-vient sling cables, Roca Jack chief among them, drag five skiers abreast up avalanche paths too steep for towers, then you drop into wide-open Andean faces. Strong skiers hike the Super C couloir for a 1,000m descent back to the hotel terrace; everyone else laps Plateau and the lake runs in ridiculous scenery. Fly to Santiago and drive two hours up the switchbacks of the Los Libertadores pass — which closes in storms, so never book a same-day international connection on either end. All-inclusive weeks (room, meals, pass) start around £2,600 land cost; shared 'chalet-style' rooms bring it down.
