Overview
The Skeleton Coast of northern Namibia earned its name from the bleached whale and seal bones that lined the shore before the whaling industry collapsed and from the sailors who perished on this fog-bound, current-swept coast. The restricted northern section of the Skeleton Coast National Park requires a permit and fly-in access, while the southern section around Torra Bay provides access to desert-adapted lion, desert elephant, and massive Cape fur seal colonies of 100,000 animals.
