Overview
The Kokoda Track is a 96 km mountain trail across the Owen Stanley Range of Papua New Guinea, following the route of the 1942 Second World War campaign where Australian forces fought to halt the Japanese advance. The terrain — steep, jungle-clad ridges in intense tropical heat and humidity — is relentless. The track is as much a pilgrimage of military history as it is an adventure; every village has a war story, and porters carry both your pack and the oral history.
