Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County · Liberia
Under the green bulk of Cape Mount, where Lake Piso meets the Atlantic, Robertsport hides one of Africa's great pointbreak alignments: five lefts peeling down the cape in sequence — Fisherman's Point the long, perfect headliner, Cassava and Cotton Trees filling the gaps — often with more pelicans than people. This is the frontier story told in the film Sliding Liberia: a town rebuilding through a proud young surf culture. Expect West Africa logistics, not a resort. Lodging is simple guesthouses and beach camps near the fishing beach; electricity is generator-hours; you bring boards, spares and goodwill (donated equipment goes a long way). The reward is warm, empty, world-class lefts and evenings watching fishing canoes ride the shorebreak home under Cape Mount. Fly to Monrovia (Roberts International), then it is a two-to-three-hour drive up the coast highway and lakeshore track. Swell runs April to October; May to September is most consistent, accepting rainy-season downpours between sessions. Ten days with guesthouse, driver and food comes to about £600. Carry cash, malaria prophylaxis and patience — all three get used.
