World Summit — Mont Blanc Ascent

Overview

Climb Mont Blanc (4,808 m) — the highest peak in Western Europe and one of the Seven Summits by some definitions — via the Gouter Route from the Nid d'Aigle cable car terminus, climbing through the Grand Couloir rockfall zone to the Gouter Hut at 3,835 m and then the summit dome in a pre-dawn push. The mountain receives 20,000 ascents per year; it is simultaneously accessible and genuinely demanding. Altitude sickness affects up to 30% of those who attempt it. The view from the summit across the whole of the Western Alps in clear conditions is the most complete alpine panorama in Europe — a worthy destination for the 1,000th adventure.
