Cycle the Garden Route from Mossel Bay to the Storms River mouth — 300 km along South Africa's most scenic stretch of Indian Ocean coastline through the Outeniqua Mountains, ancient Knysna forest, the Wilderness dunes, and the Tsitsikamma coastal cliffs. The Swartberg Pass (1,583 m) inland diversion is one of Africa's great mountain road ascents. Cycling in South Africa requires particular care on roads shared with heavy vehicles; the designated cycling route sections near Wilderness and Tsitsikamma have good infrastructure. Whale watching at Hermanus is 3 hours west.
