Rondane National Park, Innlandet, Norway · Norway
Traverse Rondane National Park — Norway's oldest national park, a high plateau of rounded glacially sculpted peaks between 1,600 and 2,178 m — on skis over 3-4 days, staying in Norwegian Trekking Association huts on one of the classic Nordic ski traverses outside the Hardangervidda. The reindeer herds of Rondane are the largest in Norway; the chance of encountering them on open plateau is high in winter. The approach from Otta or Dombas takes 2-3 hours from Oslo by train; the park is more accessible than Svalbard or Hardangervidda equivalents.
