Overview

Scoresby Sund is the largest fjord system on Earth, and in April it is still frozen enough that an expedition yacht can push into the outer basins while ski teams work the summits above — 1,000 m-plus descents from unnamed tops straight back to the tideline, with icebergs locked into the white plain below your skis. Runs here are genuinely exploratory; the peaks behind Ittoqqortoormiit — population around 350, one of the most isolated towns in Greenland — see fewer skiers in a year than an Alpine resort sees in a minute. This is a polar expedition with skis, not a ski holiday: crevassed approaches, minus 25 nights, polar-bear watch protocols ashore, and a schedule that bends around the weather from the first flight into Constable Point. Musk oxen on the tundra and fresh bear tracks on the sea ice are part of the deal. April to May balances sea ice, daylight and snow quality. Sail-to-ski berths from Iceland run to about £12,000 — expedition-grade skills and fitness are prerequisites, not aspirations.
