The Romsdalseggen is the ridge walk Norway puts on its posters. A morning bus from Åndalsnes drops you at Venjedalssetra, and the trail climbs onto a crest that narrows until Romsdalsfjord glitters below one boot and the Romsdal valley the other. Across the void stand Romsdalshorn and the Troll Wall — Europe's tallest vertical rock face — while the finish descends over Nesaksla on the Romsdalstrappa stone staircase straight into town. The exposure is real but optional: the standard route bypasses the sharpest section, while confident scramblers take the airy crest direct. What actually catches people out is weather — the ridge is no place in wind or rain, and cloud kills the entire point — so build flexibility into your week and hold the traverse for the clear day. The Romsdalen gondola gives a bail-out and a knee-saving descent. June to September is the season once the snow clears. Norway is expensive, but the hike itself costs only the £25 shuttle bus; £600 covers several days based in Åndalsnes, with the Rauma Railway as your scenic approach.
