Overview
The Via Alpina Route 1 traverses Switzerland from Vaduz in Liechtenstein to Montreux on Lake Geneva over 390 kilometres and some 24,000 metres of cumulative ascent, crossing 14 Alpine passes. The route passes through the Bernese Oberland above Grindelwald, the Uri Alps, and the Valais peaks including the Gemmi Pass, connecting the most spectacular Alpine scenery in Europe. Swiss mountain huts provide excellent accommodation and the route is fully waymarked.
