Overview
The Haute Route from Zermatt around the Matterhorn through Arolla to Verbier is the finest pedestrian circuit in the Alps, passing within viewing distance of the Matterhorn for three successive days of dramatically changing perspectives. The Zermatt to Zinal via the Schoenbielhut covers 35 kilometres with 2,500 metres of climbing past glaciers and below the 4,478-metre Matterhorn's south ridge. The Rothorn cable car and Schwarzsee provide optional cable assistance.
