Overview
The classic Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt is the most celebrated ski mountaineering traverse in the Alps, covering 120 kilometres over seven days through high-altitude glacier terrain passing beneath the greatest peaks in Europe. The route crosses the Col du Chardonnet, the Fenêtre de Saleina, and the Pigne d'Arolla before the dramatic Stockji descent to Zermatt with the Matterhorn appearing on the horizon. Hut-to-hut accommodation in comfortable Alpine refuges makes this accessible for competent skiers.
