Overview
The Vikos Gorge in the Pindus Mountains of northwestern Greece is the world's deepest gorge in proportion to its width, with walls rising 900 metres above the Voidomatis River. The 12-kilometre gorge walk from Monodendri to Vikos village passes through the Zagori stone-built villages with their arched Venetian bridges that have been declared a UNESCO protected cultural landscape. The river springs that feed the gorge from underground aquifers are impossibly blue and cold.
