Shkodra · Albania
The Accursed Mountains or Bjeshket e Namuna in northern Albania are one of Europe's last remaining wild mountain frontiers, with glacially carved peaks above 2,600 metres and traditional Gheg Albanian villages maintaining the ancient kanun code of honour. The Peaks of the Balkans trail circuit connecting Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro covers 192 kilometres through stunning scenery with almost no tourist infrastructure. The mountain villages offer authentic hospitality that elsewhere in Europe has been commercialised.
