Trolltunga, the Troll's Tongue, is a horizontal rock ledge that juts out 700 metres above Lake Ringedalsvatnet in western Norway, creating one of the world's most dramatic photography spots. The 22-kilometre return hike gains 800 metres of elevation through birch forest and over open alpine terrain. The two-hour queue for photos at the tip in summer is bypassed completely by starting before dawn.
