Ishkashim · Tajikistan
The Wakhan Corridor is one of the world's most remote and historically significant mountain corridors, a narrow strip of Afghan territory flanked by Tajikistan, Pakistan, and China. Accessible from the Tajik side, the route passes Wakhi villages whose inhabitants have maintained ancient Silk Road traditions for centuries. The Big Pamir plateau at 4,000 metres offers views into Afghanistan and encounters with nomadic Kyrgyz herders.
