Odda · Norway
Trolltunga (Troll's Tongue) is the most spectacular rock formation in Norway — a horizontal slab of gneiss jutting 700 m above Lake Ringedalsvatnet in the Hardangerfjord region. The 28 km return hike gains 1,000 m and takes 8–12 hours round trip from Odda. The queues for the photograph have grown enormous in summer; arriving at the summit in the pre-dawn darkness for sunrise is the way to experience the place as it was meant to be seen.
