Overview
The Nanda Devi Sanctuary in the Garhwal Himalaya of Uttarakhand is one of the world's most restricted wilderness areas — surrounded by a ring of peaks above 6,000 m, the inner sanctuary can only be visited with special permits and under strict quota. The approach from Lata village via the Rishi Gorge is famous as one of the most demanding approach treks in the Himalaya. Nanda Devi herself at 7,816 m is the second-highest peak in India.
