Jökulsárlón · Iceland
The crystal blue ice caves that form each winter inside the Vatnajökull glacier in southeast Iceland are one of nature's most extraordinary interiors — curved walls of ancient glacial ice in every shade of blue, from pale aquamarine to deep cobalt, with black volcanic ash layers recording past eruptions. Caves form between October and March and are guided-access only. Combine with the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon where icebergs float silently to the black sand Diamond Beach.
