Abisko · Sweden
The Kungsleden (King's Trail) runs 440 km through the heart of Swedish Lapland from Abisko in the north to Hemavan in the south, passing through four national parks including the remote Sarek — arguably Sweden's wildest wilderness. Above the Arctic Circle, the trail crosses open fells, birch forests, and glaciated mountain terrain in a landscape shaped by reindeer herding Sámi people for millennia. STF mountain stations and huts are spaced at intervals, making this one of the world's best-supported long-distance treks, accessible in summer or on cross-country skis in winter.
