Playa Guiones catches swell 330 days a year, yet almost never punishes you for showing up: a five-kilometre sweep of jungle-backed sand where consistent, crumbly peaks roll through like a machine set to 'learn'. Dry-season mornings are the magic — glassy, chest-high, offshore until ten — and the lineup spreads wide enough that everyone from first-timer to nose-riding regular finds a peak. Nosara has matured into the western hemisphere's wellness-surf capital: board rooms in every hotel, yoga shalas in the trees, howler monkeys as your alarm clock. There is no beachfront construction thanks to a maritime protection zone, so you still walk sandy trails through scrub to reach the water. Book surf-and-stay packages at Guiones or cheaper rooms towards Playa Pelada, where a small left reef adds variety. Fly to Liberia airport, then a two-and-a-half-hour shuttle, the last stretch on dirt. The thing that catches people out is cost — Nosara runs on dollars and wellness pricing, so budget £850 for a week with lessons, board hire and mid-range lodging. December to April gives the friendliest conditions; rainy-season afternoons add drama and empty peaks.
