Aoraki/Mount Cook · New Zealand
New Zealand's Alps 2 Ocean trail is a 301 km journey from the foot of Aoraki/Mount Cook — the country's highest peak — down through the Mackenzie Basin, past turquoise glacial lakes, and along braided rivers to the Pacific Ocean at Oamaru. The trail passes through high-country sheep stations, along old hydro canals, and through the Waitaki Valley wine country before descending to the Victorian port town famous for its little blue penguins. A scenic, mostly off-road ride through the heart of the South Island.
