Trek through Isalo National Park — a dramatic sandstone massif in south-central Madagascar, eroded into canyons, arches, and gorges that contain permanent natural swimming pools fed by year-round springs surrounded by endemic Pachypodium palms and ring-tailed lemur troops. The park's oasis-like quality in the midst of dry Mahafaly plateau country makes it extraordinary. The Canyons circuit takes 2-3 days; the longer routes to the summit plateau take 4-5 days with overnight camping. The Bara people have carved rock tombs into the sandstone cliffs for centuries.
