Overview
The Drakensberg Escarpment forms the great wall between South Africa and Lesotho, with basalt cliffs rising 1000 metres from the KwaZulu-Natal foothills. The Grand Traverse follows the entire escarpment from Cathedral Peak to the Royal Natal national park through a landscape of San bushman rock art in cave shelters, open plateau hiking, and endemic Drakensberg birding including the lammergeier bearded vulture.
