Ride Basotho ponies through the highland kingdom of Lesotho — Africa's highest country, where the lowest point is 1,400 m above sea level. The Maluti and Drakensberg mountains rise above 3,000 m with Thabana Ntlenyana reaching 3,482 m. Local pony trekking lodges offer 3-7 day routes between remote mountain villages where horses are the primary transport. The Basotho people wrap themselves in distinctive wool blankets year-round; temperatures drop sharply at altitude even in summer.
