Casamance, Senegal · Senegal
The Casamance region of southern Senegal is lush, green, and largely untouched by mass tourism, separated from the arid north by the Gambia. Kayaking the tidal Casamance River through mangrove forest provides access to remote Jola villages reachable only by water, where rice wine and traditional music greet visitors. Manatees, river dolphins, and leopards are rumoured in the more remote tributaries.
