Overview
The Rongai Route approaches Kilimanjaro from the remote north through the Amboseli savanna on the Kenyan border, offering a completely different ecological perspective from the crowded southern routes. The northern slopes are drier and the views of Kibo crater from the north are less commonly seen, while the Mawenzi peak's jagged silhouette dominates the approach. The Rongai is considered the second-easiest route after Marangu and provides slightly better acclimatisation profiles than the short southern routes.
