Overview
The Fish River Canyon in southern Namibia is Africa's largest canyon and one of the world's most dramatic hiking destinations, with a 160-kilometre unsealed gorge route over four to five days through a primordial landscape of ancient rock formations. The hike requires a doctor's fitness certificate and is only permitted May to September due to extreme summer heat. The orange and purple Precambrian gneiss walls rise 550 metres above the dry river bed.
