Oviedo · Spain
The Camino Primitivo is the original Way of Saint James, walked by King Alfonso II in 830 AD, predating all other Camino routes by several centuries. The 320-kilometre route from Oviedo to Santiago de Compostela crosses the Cantabrian mountains and Galician hills on a route that is harder and wilder than the Camino Frances. The mountain section through Puerto del Palo pass and the eucalyptus forests of Galicia offer dramatic contrasts.
