Overview
The trek to Ciudad Perdida, the Lost City of the Tayrona people, winds through Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta jungle for four to six days to reach a pre-Columbian city that predates Machu Picchu by over 600 years. The route crosses the Rio Buritaca numerous times and climbs over 1,200 stone steps carved by the Tayrona into the jungle hillside. Indigenous Kogi, Arhuaco and Wiwa communities still consider this site sacred.
