Overview
Okinawa's Kerama Islands, 35 km west of Naha, are considered one of Japan's finest dive destinations — visibility regularly exceeds 30 m, coral coverage is among the highest in Japan, and hammerhead sharks gather at Yonaguni Island's rocky seamounts from December to April. The underwater ruins at Yonaguni — rectangular stone formations at 25 m debated as natural or ancient — add an archaeological dimension unique in world diving. Manta rays at Ishigaki's Manta Scramble are reliable from spring.
