Chamonix · France
The ascent of Mont Blanc via the Voie Normale from Les Houches to the summit at 4,808 m is the most-attempted serious alpine objective in the world — and it kills more climbers than any other peak in the Alps. The route is not technical but the altitude, objective hazard from seracs on the Bosses Ridge, and rapidly changing weather make this a genuine mountaineering undertaking. Acclimatise on the Aiguilles before attempting.
