Hoang Lien Son, Lao Cai Province, Vietnam · Vietnam
Climb Fansipan (3,143 m) — the highest peak in Indochina, nicknamed the Roof of Indochina — through the cloud forests above Sapa in northern Vietnam on a 2-3 day summit trek. The route gains 1,400 m from the Tram Ton Pass through rhododendron and primula forests, along ridges with views into China on clear days. A cable car now reaches the summit; the trekking route via Cat Cat Village is far less visited but requires a certified guide. March and April offer the best conditions before the monsoon; October and November after it.
