Overview

Combine an ascent of Yushan (3,952 m) — Northeast Asia's highest peak — with a cycling tour through the spectacular East Rift Valley between the Central and Coastal Mountain ranges. The Yushan ascent requires an advance permit, 2 days of hiking, and a night at the high-altitude Paiyun Lodge. The East Rift Valley cycling route follows the flattest and most dramatic valley in Taiwan through Amis and Bunun aboriginal communities, hot spring towns, and the sheer Taroko Gorge marble walls at the northern end. Taiwan's cycling infrastructure is excellent.
