Rara National Park, Karnali, Nepal · Nepal
Trek to Rara Lake — Nepal's largest lake at 2,990 m in the remote Karnali region — through dense pine and spruce forests that support Himalayan black bears, red pandas, and hundreds of bird species. The northwest of Nepal receives a fraction of the trekking traffic of the Khumbu and Annapurna regions; the trail system between Jumla and Rara involves high passes and traditional Jumli villages. A flight from Kathmandu to Jumla is required; the trek takes 6-8 days return. The lake changes colour through the day from turquoise to deep blue.
