Greater Caucasus, Georgia · Georgia
Trek across the Georgian Greater Caucasus from the Svaneti region to Tusheti — two of the most isolated highland communities in Europe — crossing the Caucasus watershed via high passes only accessible in summer. The Svanebi people in Svaneti have preserved their medieval tower-house villages almost intact; Tusheti is accessed by one of the most extreme roads in the world, a mountain track requiring 4WD even in summer. The walk between them takes 10-14 days and involves passes above 3,500 m with stunning glacier views.
